Children grieve differently than adults do. Although death is a natural part of life, the loss can effect different people and different children in different ways.
A very special grief ‘Day Camp’ for children 6-12 years old will be held at the Butler Springs Christian Camp and Retreat Center in Hillsboro, Ohio on July 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Family picnic from 5 to 6 p.m.
Hospice of Hope, Ohio Valley, 215 Hughes Blvd in Mt. Orab is sponsoring this day-long camp. The camp has been a huge success for the past 5 years.
Peg Lynch, community services facilitator with Hospice of Hope is the coordinator of the one-day camp.
“Moving through the grief process is often difficult,” Lynch said. It is like climbing a mountain. That’s why our camp is called “Mountain Pathway.
“Mountain Pathway Camp is especially designed for children who have lost a loved one. We will have staff members who are specially-trained bereavement staff to help these children navigate their grief process in a safe and fun environment. Campers will have the opportunity to process their grief through sharing, art and music.”
Mountain Pathway Camp will include:
• swimming
• rock wall climbing
• zip line
Lunch, snacks and a picnic supper will be provided and parents are invited to join the campers for a family picnic and closing ceremony at 5 p.m.
Traditional camp activities will be incorporated throughout the day to enhance learning and provide laughs along the way.
Camp Mountain Pathway registration fee is only $5 per child and registrations forms should be received by July 12.
