Western Brown High School might not have the best softball player in the league – at least not according to the recent all-Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference selections.
But as has been the case all season, the Lady Broncos have a whole lot of players who can play at, say, a First-Team all-league level.
That was reflected in this season’s all-league choices, which were released last week, as five Lady Broncos were named to the SBAAC American Division First Team.
Earning First-Team honors were seniors Kyla Conley and Lexi Sutton, juniors Lilah Flores and Morgan Schlosser, and freshman Jayci Barnes.
And while the Lady Broncos didn’t have the Player of the Year – that award went to Sydney Doyle of Clinton Massie – Western Brown’s head coach, Blaine Wallace, was named Coach of the Year.
The Lady Broncos also had two players selected to the Second Team – senior Kate Stratton and junior Gracie Heitker.
In the National Division, Georgetown had five players on the various all-league teams. Senior Anistin Fender and freshman Ashley Mullins were named to the First Team, senior Abby Staker and freshman Carolyn Edmisten are on the Second Team, and senior Shelby Bradley was an honorable-mention pick.
SHAC All-Conference team
Also last week, two area Brown County teams each had three players named to the all-Southern Hills Athletic Conference softball team.
Eastern Brown High School’s Allie Grooms, Alyssa Perkins and Tabby Schumacher were named all-SHAC, as were Fayetteville-Perry High School’s Kenley Polston, Victoria Thompson and Izabella Waddle. Ripley Union Lewis Huntington High School’s Brooklyn Manning also was named to the team.
The SHAC didn’t differentiate between First Team, Second Team and honorable mention, instead having a singular team. Players of the Year will be announced at a later date.
