It’s been nearly 10 years since Brittany Stykes was shot to death while driving on US Highway 68 between Ripley and Georgetown, and her killer has never been brought to justice. Each year for her birthday, family and friends of Stykes gather at the location on US Highway 68 where she lost her life, a place where her memorial now stands. Her daughter, Aubree, was struck in the head by a bullet during the shooting but survived. Brittany Stykes was also pregnant at the time she was killed.
Family and friends gathered at her memorial once again on May 4, celebrating what would have been her 32nd birthday.
Mary Dodson led the annual balloon release on May 4 that is done each year in celebration of what would have been Brittany Stykes’ birthday.
Brown County Sheriff Gordon Ellis said his office will continue to investigate the murder of Brittany Stykes.
The reward for information that leads to a successful arrest and prosecution in the Brittany Stykes homicide from 2013 has increased to $50,000.

The shooting took place as Stykes was traveling in her vehicle on U.S. Highway 68.
The yellow Jeep she was driving was spotted by a passerby after it had driven off U.S. 68.
Previous news reports stated that she had been at her mother-in-law’s home in Bethel on Aug. 28 prior to her death, and had left there to visit her parents who live on Ripley Road just outside of Ripley on her father’s birthday. She was 22 years old.
