The Fayetteville-Perry Rockets were on the road at Manchester for their season football opener Aug. 30, cruising to a 39-10 win in their first game under the leadership of their new head coach, Wayne Stacy.

The Rockets’ relied heavily on their running game on offense and a solid defense in their week one win over the Manchester Greyhounds.

Fayetteville’s junior running back Hunter Jester took 13 carries for 147 yards, rushing for three touchdowns with a longest run of 43 yards and an average of 11.3 yards per carry.

Fayetteville’s senior quarterback Logan Stannus took seven carries for 70 yards with two touchdowns.

Stannus completed three of six pass attempts for a total of 30 passing yards.

Fayetteville’s sophomore receiver Blake Coffman hauled in three catches for 81 receiving yards.

The Rockets started off strong, heading into halftime with a 27-2 lead.

The Rockets went on to outscore the Manchester Greyhounds 12-8 in the second half to seal the victory.

As a team, the Rockets racked up a total of 321 yards on the ground and 83 yards with their air attack.

“Our team played hard and I liked our effort,” Stacy said of his Rockets’ week one victory on the road.

The Rockets were scheduled to hold their home opener on Sept. 6 while hosting Jefferson Township (0-1).

“This week, we must continue to get better. Jefferson will come to Fayetteville ready to play,” said Stacy, heading into week two on the gridiron.

In other local high school football news, the Western Brown Broncos suffered a narrow 16-14 non-league loss at Hillsboro in their season opener on Aug. 30 and are looking to claim their first win of the season while hosting Little Miami for a non-league game on Sept. 6.

The Southern Buckeye Warriors rose to a 2-0 overall record with their Aug. 30, 44-0 win over the visiting Georgetown Titans, their second win over the Titans this season.

Southern Buckeye’s John Hurley rushed for a total of 135 yards with two touchdowns.
