Grant Days will be held in Georgetown next week to celebrate the life and historical significance of Ulysses S. Grant.

Grant was Lt. General of the Union Army during the Civil War and later became the 18th President of the United States. He lived in Georgetown during his boyhood years.

The three day event begins on Thursday, April 25 with the presentation of “Grant’s Horses” at the Georgetown United Methodist Church Hall at 217 S. Main Street. The program begins at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, April 26 nationally known Grant Living Historian Dr. Curt Fields will present a program at the Gaslight Theater beginning at 7 p.m. The program is called “Grant: Unconditional Surrender.” Admission is five dollars for adults.

On Saturday April 27, a full schedule of events is planned from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Grant Boyhood Home at 219 E. Grant Avenue.

Local Historian Dr. Ned Lodwick will lead a guided history walk of Georgetown beginning at 9 a.m. at the Headquarters Tent until 10:30 a.m. Different events and demonstrations will also be held at the Living History Tent in the boyhood home yard every thirty minutes.

Events include magic shows by Professor Faris, talks by Dr. Fields and presentations from other guests as well. The day will wrap up with a memorial to Brown County Civil War Soldiers at 4 p.m.

The Grant One Room School at 508 S. Water Street and the historic Ammen Home at 115 S. Apple Street will also be open on Saturday.

Period demonstrations for skills such as blacksmithing and beekeeping will be demonstrated as well as Infantry drills and firing throughout the day.

Food, drink and souvenirs will also be for cash sale on the grounds on Saturday.
