Contractor chosen for jail project

The Brown County Commissioners have chosen a contractor for the expansion of the Brown County Jail. Endeavor Construction of Pleasant Plain, Ohio submitted a bid of $3,378,000 for the project. No timeline for the project was announced, but based on prior timelines, the new 40 man dorm for low level offenders should be open in the summer or fall of 2019. Any number of factors could delay the project, making a more precise estimate of completion difficult. The project will be done in two phases, with the dormitory being first to allow the capacity of the jail to be increased from 68 to 108 inmates. The second phase of the project would be an expansion of administrative and jail support areas. The next step in the process is to have a formal contract drawn up and signed between the county and Endeavor Construction. That process was still underway at press time. Following the contract signing, a pre-construction meeting will be held where a project timeline and other issues will be discussed. More details on the project are in the July 19 edition of The News Democrat. To subscribe, click on the link at the top left of the homepage or call (513) 732-2511.
