The Brown County Press Young football players hit the gridiron in big numbers to take advantage of this year’s youth football camps held at Western Brown High School’s LaRosa’s Field, July 9-11. The camp for grades kindergarten through fourth was held July 9. The camp for fifth and sixth graders took place on the evening of July 10, and the camp wrapped up with seventh and eighth graders taking the gridiron on July 11.
The camps focused mainly on the fundamentals of the game (running, passing, catching, blocking, tackling, and fielding) with Western Brown High School varsity football head coach Tyler Evans, his coaching staff, and members of the WBHS football teams there to help the young campers improve on their skills.
“Honestly, our youth programs are everything to us,” said Evans. “To see that many come out, parents included, was really encouraging. I think once we’re all able to get on the same page, the future will be bright.”
The camp, hosted by the Western Brown Touchdown Club, was open for players from any school and there were football players throughout Brown County venturing to LaRosa’s Field to take advantage of the free opportunity to gain quality instruction.
