Construction still in progress on hospital

By Wayne Gates

Construction on the first phase of a behavioral health hospital in Georgetown should be complete by mid-November. That was the update provided to the Georgetown Village Council on June 28 by Patrick Tracy of Oglethorpe, Inc., the owners of the former Southwest Regional Medical Center. Tracy told council that once construction was complete, federal and state regulatory inspections would be necessary before patient care could begin. Because of the unpredictability of that process, Tracy said that he could only narrow an estimate on when patient care would begin to Spring of next year. The hospital will be a psychiatric facility that also treats substance abuse. A full report on the number of jobs the hospital is expected to bring to Georgetown and other construction details are in the July 5 News Democrat. To subscribe, call 513-732-2511.
