Memorial Day was marked in Brown County with a number of parades and ceremonies on May 28.
One of the largest gatherings was in the Green Township Cemetery in Mt. Orab, following a parade through the village.
Wilson Sroufe VFW Post 9772 hosted the event, which featured performances by the Western Brown Band, a military color and honor guard and speeches by local dignitaries.
One of those who spoke was Brown County Sheriff Gordon Ellis, who is also a Brigadier General in the Indiana National Guard.
He began by thanking the spouses and other family members of military veterans who were attending.
“We would not be here without your service. I always want to remember the families for their sacrifice as well,” Ellis said.
