By Martha B. Jacob –

A Brown County 4-H member has been named the National 4-H Shooting Sports Teen Ambassador. Seth Dunning, the son of Teri and Bill Dunning, will now represent Ohio as it’s ambassador for 2017.
Seth is a sophomore at Georgetown High School and is a member of the Brown County Rangers 4H Club. He has had ‘Pistol Discipline’ as his main project in the club for five years.
“I guess I really got serious about guns and shooting after I attended a special shooting camp in Jackson County in 2012,” Dunning said. “I competed in the skills at the camp and found out I enjoyed it and I was good at it.
“I became part of the 4H Junior Leaders, and attended Canters Cave and helped out as a Youth Advisor. It was a very positive time for me so I have just continued learning everything I can about shooting sports and guns.”
Dunning said he would eventually like to have a job in the gun world, perhaps as a sales representative for a sports company. He said he believes the opportunities are everywhere.
“I’d like to be involved in teaching young people about the importance of gun safety and how to appreciate guns.”
Dunning is currently certified in Basic Pistol training as well as Steel Pistol/Rifle training.
Between January 16 to 20, Dunning attended the 39th Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show held in Las Vegas, Navada serving as ambassador as well as participating.
“The SHOT Show is a really big deal for any shooting fan,” Dunning said, “It was a great time for me and I was proud to represent 4H while there.”
The SHOT Show is owned and operated by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) which has recently stated that the firearms industry is looking at a positive year.
The SHOT Show includes more than 500 new products from 338 companies were on display and included and had an attendance of over 65,000.
“While I was at the SHOT Show I took part in four presentations made to companies who take part in the show,” Dunning said. “I made a presentation to representatives from Smith & Wesson, Hodgden Powder Company, Michigan Ammo LLC and Vista Out-doors/Federal Premium Ammunition.
“The plaques presented to these companies was in recognition of their support for the Ohio 4H Shooting Sports Program held in 2016.”
Dunning said he is excited about this years schedule and working with other 4hers in the shooting program in Brown County.
