Fayetteville man is charged with child porn

By Wayne Gates –

A Fayetteville man is facing multiple child pornography counts after an out of state investigation led authorities to his front door.
Joseph Fisher is charged with 35 counts of Illegal Use of a Minor in Nudity-Oriented Material or Performance, all second degree felonies, 30 counts of Pandering Sexually-Oriented Matter Involving a Minor, all fourth degree felonies and one count of Endangering Children, a second degree felony.
The charges are based on material found on Fisher’s cell phone after a warrant was issued for a search of the device.
“Our charges are based on the images located on his cell phone as well as encouraging or soliciting a minor to send him nude images on his cell phone,” said Brown County Prosecuting Attorney Zac Corbin.
Corbin said that Brown County authorities received a report from an investigator in Indiana that Fisher was under investigation for an alleged sexual relationship with a minor in Indiana.
“Investigators from Indiana came to Brown County late last summer and located Mr. Fisher.  They interviewed him and spoke to him about their case and took his cell phone. They conducted a forensic analysis of his cell phone and located these images that resulted in our indictment.”
Corbin said that the charges against Fisher show that crimes involving electronic devices are based on where the user is located when he or she commits an alleged crime.
“It doesn’t matter if the victim is local or not.  If you are in Brown County and you are downloading illegal material from the internet, it doesn’t matter if you know the victim, if you created those images.  If you are downloading it and bringing it to your electronic device while you are Brown County, you are committing a crime in Brown County and subject to charges,” Corbin said.
