Crash leaves two dead, one injured in West Union

WEST UNION – The Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle fatal traffic crash. The crash occurred on December 27, 2015, at approximately 5:08 P.M. on State Route 247 at Jane Street, in West Union, Ohio.

A 1999 Cadillac Deville, operated by Ivan Ward, age 73, of West Union, Ohio was traveling northbound on State Route 247. A 2001 Ford Mustang, operated by Dillon Grooms, age 18, of West Union, Ohio was traveling southbound on State Route 247. The crash occurred when Mr. Grooms’ Ford Mustang failed to yield to Mr. Ward’s Cadillac Deville, while attempting a left turn onto Jane Street.

Dillon Grooms, and Haley Grooms, age 18, of Blue Creek, Ohio, a front seat passenger in Grooms’ vehicle, were both pronounced deceased at the scene by the Adams County Coroner’s Office. Ward was transported by a West Union life squad to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, in Cincinnati, for non-life threatening injuries sustained during the crash.

Ward was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Dillon Grooms and Haley Grooms were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor at this time.

West Union Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Union Fire/Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol – Georgetown Post.
