Sharlee R West

image_436Sharlee Roberts West, age 84, of Mowrystown, Ohio, passed away Sunday morning, November 27, 2016 at the Crestwood Ridge Care Facility in Hillsboro.

She was born August 13, 1932 in Highland County, Ohio, the only daughter of Earl H. and Gertrude Whitley Roberts. She graduated Whiteoak High School in 1950 and received her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University in 1954. Sharlee went on to earn her Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Sharlee was united in marriage to Walter Aid West on March  22, 1954 at the Mowrystown Church of Christ. She taught home economics in the Eastern Brown School District for thirty-two years. She was active in farming with her husband all of her life. Sharlee served as a FHA advisor. She took pride in the success of her FHA chapter and her students.She had many students who became state officers and national officers. Sharlee also served as a 4-H advisor in the Concord Jr. Farmers Club.

Sharlee was a member of the Anthony Shaw Colonial Dames, Brown County Retired Teachers Association, Highland County Senior Citizens, and was the chairman of the Highland County Genealogy Society. She served on the Highland District Hospital Board, and was a life-long member of the Mowrystown Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School. Sharlee enjoyed cooking, bowling, gardening, and traveling; having visited all fifty states. She was an avid sports fan, especially when her grandchildren were involved.  She loved to attend her grandchildren’s softball and baseball games. One of her favorite teams was Ohio State University. Sharlee’s greatest joy was her family. She loved family get-togethers and working with her family on the farm.

Surviving are husband, Walter West of Mowrystown, two sons, Roger W. (Nancy) West of Mowrystown, and Andy West of Mowrystown, three granddaughters, Lora (Chad) Alexander, April (Kevin) Michael, and Andrea West, six great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are brothers-in-law Kenneth (Sharon) West of Winchester and Tom (Judy) West of Rushville.

In addition to her parents, Sharlee was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Adrian (Barbara) Roberts.

Services will be held at Mowrystown Church of Christ, 28 W. Main St., Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Chris Gobin officiating.  Interment will follow in the Roberts Cemetery, Taylorsville, Ohio.

Friends will be received at Edgington Funeral Home, 17 E. Main St. Mowrystown, Ohio, Wednesday, November 30, 2016,  4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

  1. I have so many sweet memories of Mrs. West as my neighbor, Home Economics teacher, and FHA advisor….she even made my wedding cake. Prayers to Mr. West, Roger, Andy and the rest of the family during this time of loss. Hold tight to your sweet memories to give you strength as you say good bye until you reunite.

  2. I have so many memories of Sherlee when I went too school She was a awesome Home Economics teacher at Macon Eastern High School She was one special teacher in my life who I cherish in my school days May God Bless all her family my heart break for you all
