Local wrestlers battle at day one of individual tournament

COLUMBUS — The six local wrestlers who qualified for the state tournament made the trip north to Columbus Thursday afternoon for the first round of tournament action.

Botts dropped the opening match of the tournament 8-2, sending him to the consolation bracket. He faced off against Genora Area’s Matt Herrick in that match and, despite several stoppages due to injuries and bleeding, Botts came away victorious 5-2. He will face the loser of Jack Staggs (Milan Edison, 26-0) and Paul Skye (Mogadore, 38-7) tomorrow.
