The 2015 Brown County Fair, known by many as “The Little State Fair,”will begin on Monday, Sept. 28 and be in full swing through Saturday, Oct. 3.

Once again, the highlight of the social calendar for many countians and beyond will begin with the annual Opening Parade at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, led by this year’s Grand Marshal, Mr. Orville Whalen. That first night of fair activity concluded with the crowning of the 2015 King and Queen.

One of the highlights of the 2015 Fair will undoubtedly be a performance by award-winning country artists Sawyer Brown and there will be musical entertainment throughout the week that will please all ages. If music doesn’t sooth your ears, then you will be delighted with the sounds all week from the arena hosting the truck and tractor pulls, or perhaps you are just waiting to hear the sound of “Walk your horses please” emanating from the center ring.

If your ears aren’t full enough, then you will have no trouble filling your stomach as again the fair will offer those delicacies known simply as “fair food.” Take a guess at how many pork tenderloins and french fries will be consumed during fair week. If Mom and Dad want to eat, then their children will certainly be entertained in the Midway, with games and rides galore.

Thursday is a special day at the fair as it is Senior Citizens Day and also the day of the always moving and powerful POW-MIA Memorial Service, held in the main ring at 6 p.m. Another popular event takes place on Thursday and Saturday in the Danny Gray Activity Center, the Brown County Fair Talent Show, where the competition will be tough and entertaining at the same time.

Of course, the fair is all about the 4-H kids and the culmination of another year of hard work with livestock and many other projects. Their work culminates with the sales taking place on Friday and Saturday.

Make sure to pick up a copy of the Sept. 27 weekend edition of The News Democrat which will contain the annual Fair Preview Special Section, where you can get schedules and much more and be sure to stop by the newspaper’s booth and say hello. See you all at the Little State Fair!
