Day one of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference golf championship is in the books and a pair of local teams have some work to do.
Buckeye Hills Golf Course hosted the first day of the tournament and West Union jumped out to a large lead. The Dragons, led by medalist Eli Fuller’s 39, lead North Adams by 13 strokes and Fairfield by 28.
Lynchburg sits just three strokes behind Fairfield while Eastern Brown sits in fifth place, 38 strokes behind West Union.
Jordan Johnson led the Warriors, carding a 40. The score tied Johnson with Lynchburg’s Zach Blankenship in the individual standings, one stroke ahead of another West Union Dragon, Craig Horton.
Ripley was paced, as they normally are, by Dylan Phillips. Phillips shot a 42 for the Blue Jays, placing him in a three-way tie for fifth in the individual standings with West Union’s Elijah McCarty and a pair of North Adams Devils, Patrick England and Bryant Lung.
Blake Rigdon shot a 50 for the Warriors, placing him in a tie for 17th with Manchester’s Dylan Colvin. Ripley’s second-lowest score came courtesy of Scottie Ott, who carded a 59 to draw even with Manchester’s Logan Hayslip.
Day two of the SHAC Tournament took place Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Adams County Country Club. Unfortunately, those results were not available before press time. Day three of the tournament is Tuesday, Sept. 22, at White Oak Golf Course.
