The Ohio Rural Heritage Association announces the first Queen Pageant, which will be held Friday, Aug. 21, on the main stage following the parade.

Contestants must be between 16 and 19. All girls must be enrolled in either post-secondary courses or enrolled full time in a local community college or university. Candidates will also ride in the parade. They will be judged on three criteria.

First, will be an essay which will be submitted before the evening of the pageant based on a predetermined topic about state or local heritage. Second, will be an evening gown look, all gowns must be long and completely cover the midriff section of the body. Third, will be a question to be answered on stage, this question will be chosen randomly in a drawing format by each girl during the pageant.

The winner of the pageant will receive title of Miss Ohio Rural Heritage Queen along with a monetary award. The chosen queen will participate in the presentation of awards for festival activities on Saturday, Aug. 22. She will also be required to attend two fundraising events throughout the year held locally to raise money for the Ohio Rural Heritage Association.
