Flash Gold U-15 competes at OSU

Back row left to right: Head coach Shawn Whisman, players Adam Seal, Mason Stanley, Kyle Blaha, Hunter DeWeese, Stephen Krause, Aric France, assistant coach DeWayne DeWeese, and Paul Krause. Front row left to right: Dylan Whisman, Mitch Kling, Jantzen Smith, Evan Baugh, and Jacob McCaleb

The Flash Gold Under-15 baseball team went to Columbus, Ohio over the weekend to compete in an under-16 baseball tournament with older teams from several states and with a chance to play on Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium on the campus of the Ohio State University.

The Flash 15-year olds did a great job in pool play by going 3-0 and beating U.S. Athletic Nationals out of Indiana, The Propsects and the Lancaster Surge all in very tight well-pitched baseball games as well as displaying great defense. All these under-16 teams had a good tournament but the Flash 15-year-olds displayed great pitching and defense and were able to capitalize on mistakes to win tight games.

The Flash Under-15s made it to the championship round and got to play on Sunday at Ohio State against the Ohio Stealth Under-16 team. The game was a tight game with the score locked at 3-1 for most of the game. Stealth ended up with a 7-2 win at the end of the game.

In the tournament the Flash Under-15 team had a complete-game pitching performance from Aric France and Kyle Blaha, and Evan Baugh had a great pitching performance as well. The Flash Under-15 team used great hitting from Stephen Krause and Aric France and Adam Seal as well as Mason Stanley to perform well at the tournament. The team played classic small ball like getting runners on base, moving them over, and then scoring them through sacrifice flies or ground balls to the right side with less than two outs, which was a team emphasis this year.
